Physician Shadowing III

This seems to be turning into a pre-med blog. :)

Anyway, I'll write an entry about my 4th of July and what being an American means to me.

On Wednesday I shadowed Dr. Stewart again. It was awesome, as always. :) I was very grateful to be there since the AC at our house broke down and the office was nice and cool. <3 Anyway, I was there from 8:45 till 5:00 and it was great. I've officially been at an office for the whole work day! It was very interesting and it helped me think of a lot of questions!

One of the most interesting parts of the day were seeing a strep throat. I saw tonsils and Dr. Stewart let me know how they classify them. I guess it's on a scale from one to three, with three being tonsils touching. I asked him how he knew they should take them out, and he say it's if they've had tonsillitis at least 5 times in the past year. He also said that they try not to take them out unless they absolutely have to; it's also harder to recover from that kind of surgery as an adult because the tonsils are bigger and change shape.

The same lady with the strep throat had something called Crohn's disease. Crohn's disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease that may affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract from the mouth to the anus. Dr. Stewart asked her if she had a few minutes to talk about me it; he said I would benefit from knowing what it was like from a patient's point of view rather than from information. She told me she started feeling horrible with her second pregnancy and that it took a whole year before they diagnosed her with it. She had some trouble with medications and stopped taking them for about a year; it worked for a while but she started feeling really sick again. At that point her insurance company had dropped her because of her disease and it took a year to find a new one. As far as lifestyle goes, she said it's hard; since she's had it the whole time she's had kids, they understand that "mommy can't do something because she has to go to the bathroom." She said that it wasn't a great thing to have, but that she knew others had it worse; she just learned how to live with it. It was truly inspiring and it really touched me, especially because she must've been around 30 with four little ones to take care of. I now understand why Dr. Stewart hates dealing with insurance companies; they can truly be horrible.

I think by far the most interesting thing we saw was a gentleman that had cut his finger by lifting a rock. It was very deep and his finger was bleeding a lot. He ended up needing stitches and I was able to watch! He only needed three, but it still took about half an hour to get it done; the surgery room was being used so we had to wait. Anyway, I watched Dr. Stewart do it and it was very interesting. The gentleman's skin was extremely tough, so Dr. Stewart was having trouble putting the needle through it. I've never seen it done before, so I found it extremely interesting. I won't lie, it made me kinda dizzy at first. Not because his finger was bleeding and it looked pretty gross; what made me dizzy was seeing the skin on the needle! I do not like skin! It's okay because I know I can handle it if needed. What it did for me was reestablish that I do not want to be a dermatologist! Not only did I find it boring when I shadowed the dermatologist last year, I also found out I'm not a fan of the way skin looks past the outer layer, and by that I mean the part you see every day. Guess it's just not my thing!

I asked Dr. Stewart how he dealt with difficult patients. He said something I didn't think a doctor could do! He said it is perfectly okay to "fire" patients! You can't just tell them you can't see them anymore; you have to notify them in writing and let them know you can see them for medical emergency for 30 days. You also have to recommend new doctors for them to see. However, after those 30 days, you don't have to see them anymore. He said it's mostly patients that use you for narcotics, but that they do get some they let go because they may become aggressive.

I also asked him what he thought were good qualities to have as a doctor. He said being patient is very important, as well as being a good listener, have good problem solving skills, good communication, being able to gather data, have a love for learning, and be okay with routine. The last one was important because there's routine no matter what specialty you go into. He said if you don't like taking out gallbladders, you probably shouldn't do it for a living. That really got me thinking because I did like the variety of family medicine, even though you do see more things than others, like sore throat vs a rare disease. Because of this he also said he would always chose to practice primary care, but if he was to do something outside of it, he would do cardiology.

I also asked him what's the most rewarding part of the job? He said it was by far the relationship with patients. You get to know them in a level that most people don't; you can ask them anything during their visits. The part he hates the most in by far the paperwork; he said it can drive you insane, but that it's very important. You can't send off a patient to a specialist without writing things down; you have to let them know what you talked about and what, if any, medications you prescribed.

It was truly a great experience. My feet hurt at the end of the day but it was totally worth it! I wish I had more friends going into medicine that I could hang out with so we can geek out about all of this! I'm just excited about going back next week and learning even more! I think I'm going to keep my options open as far as specialties go. I find more and more things interesting. <3

I won't worry about that for a long time though.

My main worry is getting into medical school. :)

Love,
Andrea, Future M.D. or D.O.

Physician Shadowing II

I had my third physician shadowing today! My second one was with a dermatologist, and although I'm supposed to write about it, I didn't because I disliked it.

Anyway, so today I shadowed Dr. Stewart again. He truly is a great doctor. All his patients rave about him, and you can tell he cares. He doesn't prescribe things just to prescribe them. He doesn't give unnecessary tests. He always calls his patients to check up on them and figure out how things are going. The part I love the most? He tries his hardest to save his patients money! He finds alternatives to lower costs for them. I want to be that kind of doctor!

The first patient he saw was an opthamologist. He had a crackle in his left lung, but all his tests came back normal. Thanks to that, I got to use the stethoscope for the first time ever! It was the coolest thing ever! I heard a different between the two lungs, but I didn't hear a crackle or anything. I think I just heard past it because it sounded like a beating. It was still really awesome.

I asked him if it was easier or harder to see another doctor. He said that it can be challenging to see other doctors or family members of said doctors. Sometimes they assume the patients will know because they have a doctor in the family they can ask, but he said that it is important to be objective, no matter who they are. The easy part about seeing other doctors is being able to use lingo that non-doctors wouldn't understand.

He also had another patient that had a heart murmur. I used the stethoscope again and listened to it. It was the coolest thing all day! The heart definitely sounds different when you have a murmur, although I'm pretty sure that's no surprise to anyone. I compared it to my heart and it just blew me away. The difference is great! I mean, it's not great for him, but it just blows me away how a murmur sounds.

I also mentioned I'd like to be a neurosurgeon, but that I was keeping my options open. We went to see a patient and he had a daughter in a wheelchair. She was sassy! She made me laugh; truly a remarkable young lady. When we got back to his office, he told me what she suffers from would be a good thing to research. She had spina bifida, a developmental congenital disorder caused by the incomplete closing of the embryonic neural tube. Basically the vertebrae overlapping the spinal cords don't close all the way. The young lady in the office had to be in a wheelchair because her legs were paralyzed; she kept growing but her spine never recovered. He also mentioned the best way to deal with it is to prevent it; folic acid is very important in pregnancy!

There were a lot of reps that came over to get Dr. Stewart to sign things today. It made me think of another question; how does he keep up with new medicine that comes out? He went a little further and answered how he keeps up to date with everything; medicine, diseases, etc. He uses this site called Up To Date. He said that you pay a pretty penny for it, but that it's totally worth it. He uses it when he wants more information about things his patients ask about. He also said that you need to take classes, a certain amount a year, to learn what's new. He said for family medicine you need about 50.

At the end of the day, I asked him what was the most interesting or scary thing he had seen. He said he had seen a gentleman last month with a widow maker, or Proximal LAD Blockage. It's a blockage in the left anterior descending artery; it can lead to heart attacks and death, which is why it's called the widow maker. He thought it was interesting because he was only in his 40's and, since Dr. Stewart is getting close to that age, he really took notice. He said it makes you think. He also told me about this lady who had a severe mental illness and gave herself a tummy tuck. She ended up at the hospital and eventually committed suicide; she was a very troubled lady, may she rest in peace. Another story he told me was about a guy who shot himself with a nail gun. He accidentally got a nail in his calf and it took a very long time to pull it out. He said it was difficult to figure out where it was because it was small and it went in at an angle.

I LOVED the experience. It was super interesting and amazing. Getting to FINALLY use the stethoscope was awesome, and listening to that heart murmur was definitely the highlight of the experience. It sounds horrible because it's not really a good thing for the gentleman, but I was just excited to hear the difference in heartbeats. I am so ready to be a doctor, even if I don't go into family medicine! I can't believe I wasn't interested in stuff like this growing up; it is great! I am that much more excited to keep going and getting close to my goal! I have even more excitement and I'm even more motivation to keep going!

I WILL be a great surgeon one day! :D

Or any kind of doctor, really. Whatever I find to be my calling. :)

Love,
Andrea, Future M.D. or D.O.

California

I've had a pretty great few days.

Steven and I decided we're moving to California! :) Not any time soon, unfortunately. I wanted to take a leap and just move already, but the hubby talked some sense into me. After giving it some thought, we decided to move in two years so we'd get plenty of time to save up. It'll also give us a chance for the hubby to get his associate's degree. Since my sister also wanted to move to California, we figured it'd be a good idea for all of us to move at the same time to support each other.

After doing some more talking we realized my sister and I aren't graduating for another 3 years, maybe 2 for me if I take classes during the summer. So we pushed the date back another year so all of us can have some sort of degree before we move. I'm very excited because my heart lies in California. <3 I love the ocean and I've lived far too long without it.

My sister and I are trying to coordinate where we will go for school after we move. I plan on going to med school and she plans on going to graduate school. We're going to be looking at different schools and their programs so we can decide where to go! <3 I've narrowed down my searches to San Francisco, best neurosurgery school in the country, Los Angeles, and San Diego. I'm dying to get started!

I know it's a long time from now but I can't help but feel free! Like I'll finally be somewhere I want to be doing what I love. As excited as I am to be moving, I'm even more excited to go to med school! I can't keep my mind off of it! I want to be done with my undergrad so I can get started on my career! I can't wait!

So that's all for today. Just wanted to write down all my excitement. <3

Love,
Andrea~!

How I Knew

I've been thinking about writing this for a while. Mostly because I don't want to forget how everything happened. So here's a little peek at my life and how I knew Steven was the man I wanted to marry. :)

Steven and I are high school sweethearts. We are a young couple with big dreams and extreme devotion to each other. We work to better ourselves, not only as a couple, but as individuals. He is my best friend and I know I can count on him no matter what. Together we are perfect. <3

Our story began way before I met him; It actually started when my aunt told me her love story. To make it short, she had her heart broken by her first boyfriend. She turned to Virgin Mary, she was Catholic at the time, and prayed and prayed. She begged her to never let her get hurt again; she asked her to give her a sign when she found the right man. The sign would be a single red rose. Years went by and she met my uncle in Rhode Island while my uncle was in an LDS mission. They started dating after he got back and my aunt went back to Peru. She went to visit him after he was back here in Utah and he picked her up from the airport. She noticed he didn't have a rose and she was disappointed. However, and since he's my uncle it's not a surprise, he had left a single red rose for her when she got to the car. Tears, tears, and tears. Most romantic story ever! They ended up getting married and having three wonderful children. <3

When I heard the story it made my day. It was so romantic and beautiful! So I decided to the same thing; I was a young Catholic girl at the time, so I went to Virgin Mary and prayed for the same thing. In my case, the rose was white. Call me a copy-cat, but I don't care. I was like, thirteen.

Steven and I started dating in November of our Senior year. It was a very sweet, innocent kind of love. We were best friends and we loved hanging out together. His birthday rolled around, Valentine's Day, and we went to the school dance. We went with two other friends and we danced the night away. It was a really fun time and we really enjoyed ourselves. There were some tables around with white roses on them, and while we were dancing, Steven grabbed one and gave it to me. He obviously didn't know about my "sign" and I was kind of in shock about it. I wasn't sure if it counted, but since I had no idea what the "terms" of the sign were, I decided to take it as true.

A while went by and I decided to tell him about it. I had actually written about it in my Gaia Online journal, so one night while we were hanging out I told him to read it. I was nervous because I didn't want to scare him off or to seem crazy. I don't exactly remember what he said about it or how he reacted; I only remember him sitting at the computer chair and reading it while I nervously watched TV. I figured it must've gone well because I didn't scare him away.

Prom season came around and we got a group together. We went with most of Steven's friends and their date. They were all at his friend Derrik's house, where Steven was also living at the time, while I got ready. I had to work earlier that day so I basically ended my shift and ran to get my hair done at the salon. I arrived in a dress that changed between purple and green in the light. When I arrived, Steven greeted me with a single white rose instead of a corsage. He hadn't told anyone about it or what it meant, but he later told me when they went to get the corsages that he insisted on only getting me a white rose. It was very sweet and we had a great night dancing with our group.

We got engaged that same year in December and married in April. We are very logical people, which is why the story sounds silly. However, no matter how romantically illogical my sign was, we didn't go into our marriage lightly. We knew it was a big decision and there were a lot of bumps along the road before we got engaged. It took a lot of time and tears but we pulled through and supported each other in the rough times. Our engagement actually came as a surprise; I wasn't expecting it until years down the road.

We were going on a date in December. Steven had a great job for a high school graduate and we decided to go watch a movie. We got our tickets for The Princess and The Frog and went to the mall to wait for it to start. We were heading for Hot Topic when Steven casually said, "Let's go look at rings." I didn't think much of it, I just figured he wanted to see what I liked for future reference.

We were looking around and I stopped to look at the colored stones. They had a lot of rings, but the amethyst ones got my attention. I found a really pretty one in the shape of a heart with little diamonds around it. I was looking at it and Steven asked if I liked it. I said yes. That's when he surprised me by saying, "Let's get it!" with that cute innocent smile of his. I was in shock thinking he was kidding but he went to talk to the guy and set everything up.

I sat in awe while he worked with the rep. All I remember saying over and over was, "Oh my god, oh my god." It was getting close to 8 PM, the time our movie started. We finished at the jewelry store with our order placed and ran to get back on time. We were watching the movie and I just started crying. It was a very emotional time and Steven just held me until I calmed down while we watched the movie. It is one of the most amazing days I've ever had.

We got our ring about a week later, they needed to re-size it, and it happened to be the same day one of my friends was getting married. It was December 17th, 2009. Steven called me and let me know they had the ring in. We went to pick it up together and he drove me home so I could get ready for my friend's reception. He needed to get to work and he was already running a little late. I was very anxious and I told him he could either propose now or go to work and we could wait. I think he knew I was very excited about it because he decided to do it right then and there. It was rushed but the moment itself was priceless. He got down on one knee and said, "A life unshared is a life unworthy. Will you share your life with me?" Every since I've been little I thought you were supposed to say that you had to think about it. It was part of all the novelas I watched back home. I always expected that this would be what I would say, but I didn't. I stayed quiet for a minute, filled with pure bliss, while Steven agonizingly waited. I was looking into his eyes and I could tell he was getting worried that I was going to say no. I quickly said yes and he put the ring on my finger. We kissed, hugged, and he ran to get ready for work.

Our love story isn't perfect. Our marriage isn't perfect. We got married young, he was 19 and I was two week from turning 19, but we didn't let that stop us. We knew what was right for us and we knew we wanted to be together forever. We knew it wouldn't be easy, but we know what it takes to make it. We will never give up and we will always fight for our love and our marriage. We are very happy and although our lives aren't perfect, we couldn't imagine living without each other in this stage of our lives. I am so in love with my husband and I'm so very thankful and blessed to have him in my life. He is everything I've ever wanted, my Prince Charming and my bad boy. He grounds me and he fills me with joy and peace. I can do anything as long as he is by my side.

I love you, Steven. <3

Late Night Thoughts

It's funny how inspiration hits when insomnia reigns.

As exhausted as I am physically, my mind is too active to rest.

I've been meaning to write for a while, but I wasn't ready to talk... type... about it. My great-grandma passed away in March. It was hard for me, because I loved her very much, but also because I always thought I would go back to visit her before she passed. I hadn't seen her for nine years, and I was hoping she would last at least two more years. She would've been 100 years old on June 1st, 2015. I really wanted to go see her for her special birthday, but now I will only get to see her grave.

It's sad, but I've come to terms with the fact that it was her time to go. We can never escape the grips of death, no matter how hard we try, and no matter how scared we are. The only comfort death gives me is the idea of becoming one with the universe; in a way, we all come back again. Maybe not at the same time, but our molecules will eventually end up as part of another being. That's all that I'm certain of, so I'm sticking to it for comfort.

I wasn't planning on making this entry sad, but I had to get that out of my system. I miss her dearly but I know she will never truly leave us. Not while she lives in our memories and in our hearts.

RIP Bisabuela Olga <3 June 1st, 1914 - March 3rd, 2013 <3

On to happier thoughts.

I've had a great day. I learned that yoga is tough and although it may not feel like it, you will be feeling the burn afterwards! My body is completely exhausted. I didn't think I had worked hard at all after I was done, but a few hours later I was ready for a nap! I love exercising, it's truly amazing how great you feel after you're done. You feel energized and exhausted, probably a little sore, but it makes me feel alive!

Steven and I also looked at cars and found some good options for him. He's been dying to get a second one for a while so we don't have to keep sharing the beetle. I'm happy about it because I can put eyelashes on my car and make it super girly the second he gets his own car! That and I won't have to take the train everywhere if I don't feel like it... or if it's snowing really hard.

We also found the perfect apartment! We've been looking for a while for something that matched our needs and we FINALLY found one! It's not too far away from here so we're still close to our families and friends; that and I don't have to wake up 3 hours before my first class to catch a train. Steven still has to commute to work but it's closer to the freeway so it won't be quite as long. My favorite part about it is that it's pretty spacious so my cats will have plenty of room to run around. I'm just glad we're finally going to be able to move; living with your parents is not pleasant.

It feels like we've been lazy and failed at being adults because we haven't moved out yet, but thinking back on it, I don't think anyone else in our situation would've been able to either so I don't feel quite as bad. Steven hadn't been able to get a good job for a while, and when he did find a good one, it was too far away with a pay that wasn't high enough to justify the money he was spending on gas. It also didn't help that at some point both of us were working and going to school and never found time to see each other; even then, we were barely making enough to be on our own. We've also had to save up and spend a lot of money on my residency stuff. It's been a long process but we can almost put it behind us; I can finally apply for citizenship this year!

It's been a rough ride but I'm so relieved we can finally move out and be on our own. Life is looking up and we can live our lives the way we want to. It's been a long three years, but I'm very proud of how far we've come. We're not perfect, but we're truly perfect together. :) Steven is my best friend and I am extremely blessed and thankful to the Goddess that we crossed paths and fell in love. He is the best thing to ever happen to me; he is truly a blessing and I couldn't imagine my life without him.

Speaking of our bright future together, I'm excited about school.

I'm not taking any classes this summer because it's too expensive, so I can't wait until Fall semester. I'll be taking 17 credits hours, yuck, but that means I'm that much closer to my goal. I am no longer going to doubt myself; I am not letting fear stop me. I am going to go to medical school after I'm done with my pre-med education. It doesn't matter if I didn't do amazing my first year; I am doing amazing now and I have enough drive to keep going. I am a great student and I'm doctor material. I care for others and I will do anything in my power to help those in need, whether they be animals or humans, young or old, sick or healthy. I want to help others and I will do that when I'm ready. It doesn't matter if it's an MD school or a DO school, I will become a great doctor.

I have to talk to myself in a positive voice to help with my doubts. Slowly but surely, it's working. I think it's something that helps us all. We have to be kind to ourselves and talk to ourselves positively so we don't bring down our self-esteem. We have to be confident in our abilities; we may not do everything perfect, but we can do great things if we believe in ourselves and work hard for it. I truly believe with motivation and hard work we can achieve anything; the only thing stopping us is if we decide it's not what we want to achieve.

There's my little pep-talk of the day, I guess. :P

I feel like I can get some sleep now that I've written down everything that's been on my mind. Life is beautiful and I'm very blessed to be able to experience it. I will try to see things in a positive light and help those around me as much as I can. I am thankful for everything in my life right now, I'm thankful for everything in the past because it helped form who I am, and I'm thankful for everything that has yet to come.

Love,
Andrea~!

Success

I've been thinking for a while about a good post to start the year. I couldn't think of anything since I've been busy with school, and when I did have some ideas, I was too lazy to log in.

I guess they just weren't worthwhile.

I recently started thinking about success and what it takes to be successful in life. For me, being successful will come with a great job once I finish med school. Success to me is also defined by doing well in school, especially in hard subjects, like Chemistry.

Success is different for everyone and not everyone achieves it. I think the main reason why is because those people give up without trying hard enough. If you realize that the type of success you want is not what will make you happy, it's okay to give up on it. If you don't change your mind about this, then you should work hard to bring in that success.

Life is tough. We can't give up what we want out of it just because it's hard. On the contrary, we have to work even harder. No matter how difficult it may seem, or how impossible, all you can do is keep trying. We also can't allow ourselves to become discouraged just because things seem tough at the moment. That toughness will pass and things will become much easier, but if we don't stick with it we will never be able to succeed.

Time and practice are necessary and we need to be willing to put in the blood, sweat, and tears to get through it and achieve our goals.

X.o.x.o,
Andrea~!

Yule

Merry Yule everyone!!!

I hope you've all had a blessed day. :)

Although the title is Yule, this is more of an update of the last few weeks. I've been meaning to write stuff down but I've been either too busy or too lazy. I guess it's all right though since I've been working my butt off all semester.

I got three A's and two B+'s this semester. :)

I'm very proud of myself. <3

It was very hard, and I was very tired all semester, but I did it. :) I did very well, if I do say so myself. I'm kinda upset that my Zoology grade wasn't an A; I was very close to getting one!!! But it's okay, because I got an A on math instead. :)

I was starting to doubt myself, like I always do, but I'm confident now. It's going to be a very hard road, but I'm going to be the best doctor possible. :) I figured out that if I take around 16-18 credits a semester I can graduate by 2016!!! I should graduate by 2014, but since I took the pre-med route a little late, I have to stick around a little later.

I'm just glad I won't have to wait until 2018!!! I made a mistake planning my schedule and I thought I wouldn't be done by then. Thankfully, I figured out I was skipping years at a time, so I fixed it and got a better idea of my graduation date. If I can take classes in the summer, I should be able to finish by 2015; I guess it's kinda far away still, but it doesn't seem that far away to me!!! Guess that's all that should matter. :)

I love the human brain, but I'm not sure if I want to be a neurosurgeon. I want to, but it'll be an extra six years of residency after the four of med school. I may not be done with everything until I'm 35!!! That's kinda too far away for my liking. It'll be worth it, but I wish I could finish everything by the time I'm 30 so I have more time to enjoy being a doctor and be able to provide for my family.

I haven't figured it out yet, but I have plenty of time. :)

I may just do neurology or psychiatry like I wanted to for a while. Who knows. I'm just happy things are working out for me. Guess it just proves that hard work truly pays off. I just hope med schools like my transcript enough to give me a chance. I think as long as I get a high score on the MCAT I'll be fine. My GPA wasn't the best at the beginning of my studies, but I'm sure I'll keep making up for it now. I want some schools to at least offer me interviews; if they meet with me face-to-face, they can get to know me and I can prove them that I'll be a great doctor. :)

I just wish I had been more involved at the beginning of my college years. :/

I also wish I had known I wanted to be a doctor sooner so I could've gotten things done faster.

Well, that's all the school updates!!!

My kitten is growing into a beautiful cat!!! She's almost eight months old and she is lovely!!! She makes the cutest bird chirping noises when she hunts!!! She also plays a lot with her older brother Stevey, our three year old gray and white cat. They are so cute when they wrestle!!! They really are adorable and wonderful. <3 I dunno where I would be without my kitties. I know it's not much to some people, but to me, they are the world. My cats are my best friends and I'm blessed to have them in my life. <3

The last member of our family is sick. :( Steven seems to have a cold, but it's really been rough on him. He's had a fever, runny nose, sore throat, and some back pain. I feel so bad that I can't help him. I know he just has to get over it, but I can't help but worry. He's not his usual happy self. It also sucks that he's missed two days of work; he has to go back tomorrow, but I wish he could stay home until he feels better. He's sleeping right now, so hopefully he'll wake up feeling well.

Today I went to yoga with Leah, Alex, and Jason. It was a lot of fun, but I'm EXTREMELY sore. My back is killing me!!! I enjoyed doing 108 sun salutations, but I don't think I'm fit enough to do it again; at least not anytime soon. I didn't actually do 108, but I did a lot. I would say around 70 full ones; I skipped a few, but the rest that I didn't skip I modified because everyone was going very fast!!!

I love yoga; it's very relaxing, even though I can't keep up with everything all the time!!! I want to do it more often so I can get better at it. I couldn't get into the one yoga class they offer at Weber, so I'm taking Tai Chi instead. I'm very excited about it; it's going to be a lot of fun!!! I wanted to take it with some friends, but no one wants to take it with me. Even if they did though, the class is full. Either way, I hope this will be a new opportunity for me to make friends. I made a lot this past semester during my ASL class. :)

Well that's all I can think of. My life is pretty sweet right now and I'm very blessed with everything the Goddess has given me. <3 I'm very happy things are working out for me and Steven. I hope things keep looking up for us. <3

Hope you all had a blessed Yule!!!

And I hope you have a blessed rest of the year. :)

Blessed be,
Andrea~!

School

Only two weeks left on the semester.

Hooray!!!

I'm nervous about it. There's a lot of work that's due and only two weeks left, along with one week for finals. I hope I do well; I've been studying very hard, but I STILL feel like I should be doing more!!! I guess I ALWAYS feel like I should be doing more.

I'm taking Chemistry and Microbiology next semester, along with Sociology, not really excited about it, ASL, and Tai Chi. I'm excited for ASL and Tai Chi; they should be pretty easy classes. I'm a little nervous about Microbiology and Chemistry though; not because I don't think I can be successful at them, but because I'm worried about taking two labs again!!!

I've also discovered how much I LOVE biology!!! Everything about it is amazing!!! I especially love genetics; I haven't studied enough about it to know anything besides the basics, but what I have learned is great!!! I love knowing about alleles and how they work. I guess I'm just a nerd like that, but everything about it is so fascinating!!!

Okay, I'm done being a nerd.

Besides all the classes I need to take, I have to do research and leadership opportunities. Volunteering is really the only kind of extra curricular activity I've taken part of so far, but I think it'll be my favorite one even after I take part in others. Taking care of those kitties really makes my day; I love spending time with them and making them happy. I don't think there's anything I enjoy more.

I also love my own kitties. They are a lot of fun. Stevey likes to clean his little sister, and she gets so mad she starts attacking him!!! They play all day, cuddle at night, and attack my hubby's feet in between. I'm so glad I adopted Stevey three years ago, and Bonnie (Bon Bon) five months ago. She's the cutest kitten ever; she chirps like a little bird and loves to knead my hair.

I admit it, I'm a crazy cat lady. <3

One of my dreams is to be able to have tons of no-kill animal shelters all around the country. I would like for it to be all around the world, but that's way harder. I would like for it to happen eventually, even if I'm not alive to see it. That's one of my end goals, but for that, I need to get through medical school first.

I'm very excited about med school. I can't wait to learn all the things that will make me a great doctor!!! Of course, before that, I need to get accepted into one. I'm very excited to learn about the brain and how to help people once I become a neurosurgeon. I'm very, very excited.

I just want to help people. <3

Okay, I'm done rambling.

Good night and happy Thanksgiving. <3

Love,
Andrea~!

Life and Hope

Life is hard.

Sometimes it feels like life just doesn't want us to succeed.

We were having a great day yesterday. Steven and I went on a little date to Zuppa's and hung out for a while. We had great food, we were both in a great mood, and we were enjoying each other's company. Everything was wonderful.

And then...

Steven told me his recruiter had told him that because of his medical record stating that he had debilitating migraines, he had a 25% chance to get accepted into the Air Force.

Sigh.

Just when we were thinking we'll be able to take a step forward, life has to throw us back again and make things hard. Oh well. That's just how it is. Now I'm trying to figure out what we can do to make things happen. We talked to an advisor on the Air Force page and he mentioned that although there's no way to clear it from his record, he can go to a specialist and get a second opinion. If the result is positive, he can submit that diagnosis in along with the first one and hope for the best.

It's rather discouraging.

Going to a specialist will be costly, mostly because we don't know what he needs to do to be able to make a better diagnosis. It could be an MRI, or CAT scan, or whatever. So the news just aren't the best right about now. It's really sad for me because I know how much Steven wants to join. Nothing will make him happier than to be able to serve his country, and now we have to wait and hope that the MEPS doctor will still approve of him joining or give him a waiver.

We're kinda hoping for a Captain America doctor; you know, like when he let what's his name join even though he was super short and scrawny? Yeah, that kind of doctor. It might be possible, I mean, they weren't debilitating really, they were mostly annoying, and he hasn't had them for over a year. I understand why they need to be careful with someone like that, but I'm hoping they'll understand and let him go through with it anyway.

Maybe I'm just a pessimist.

Steven still wants to go through with it. I want to say that I agree, but I'm not sure if it's a great idea if the chances of him getting accepted are slim. The other side of me wants to say, sure, go ahead, it's worth a shot, but I think other more pessimistic side is winning right now.

It's not that I don't believe in him, it's just that I don't believe in people giving very many chances, especially not with this sort of thing. I think the Military would be happy to have Steven join; he's great at what he does, and he's a very hard worker with tons of love for his country. I want them to see that, but how can we make them see it when they might not even look at him and only look at his record?

Bottom line, Steven's going to try anyway.

I'm proud of him for that, and I guess it's okay for him to have an oh well rather than a what if. I just don't want to get my hopes up again. I wish things were easier for us right now, but I also know that it's not the end of the world. It kinda just feels like it because it's what I'm living right about now. However, I'm thankful for everything we have and that we are healthy, because there are other people out there who are suffering and have it way worse than we do.

Compared to them, this is a walk in the park.

Or whatever other saying people use...

I just pray to the Goddess that she will shine her ever shining light upon us and help us get through with this, and that the outcome will be favorable.

If it's meant to be, it's meant to be.

And if it's not, I'll be kinda pissed.

And sad.

Love,
Andrea~!

Military

So my hubby is thinking about joining the Air Force.

I gotta say I'm pretty excited, since it is something that he's wanted to do for a long time, but also because the benefits are great.

And let's be honest, who DOESN'T love a man in uniform? ;)

I think my hubby is making the right decision, and for the right reasons, but I also worry about him getting deployed. I just hope that he won't get hurt when he does get deployed. I'm also kinda excited about getting stationed somewhere. Steven really wants to go to Ramstein AFB and stay there for a while. I think it'd be great to live in a different country. Anywhere outside of this state would be great, although I would much rather stay here than go, say, to Wyoming or Idaho or something like that. I'm also happy because the military will be able to pay for his schooling, so he'll be able to go back to school when he's ready and we won't have to worry about saving up enough money for him to be able to go back.

Anyway, I'm kind of excited. Nothing is set as of right now, so I guess we'll see where life takes us.

I'm doing well in school; I have 3 A's for sure, maybe a B+ or A-, and a B. It's A LOT of work, but I'm keeping up. I gotta say, it's nice to not have to work so I can concentrate in school. I have my husband to thank for that, since he works for the both of us. I'm very happy about my accomplishments, but I still have a long way to go, and I have to work harder than I'm already working to ensure I keep doing well.

One of my friends isn't doing so well in school. I wish I could help her because I know she works hard, but she just isn't studying as hard as she should be. Mostly because she has no time. I wish I could tell her that I support her and that I know she can accomplish many things if she just put school as her number one priority.

That's kinda out of the blue, but it's been bothering me. I just want to help, but I dunno how to bring it up so I don't hurt her feelings or act like I'm parenting her or something. I guess I just want everyone to succeed and I feel responsible for my friends?

I dunno.

Back to my life, I guess.

It's going pretty okay. I've been sick, but I've been holding up all right. Mostly because I want to make sure I don't get behind in my school work. Speaking of which, I have like two exams next week, plus a quiz for my zoology class. I seriously can't wait until I'm a doctor. I was having doubt before, but I'm confident I can do it now. It's hard work, but I'm very confident in my abilities to succeed. I'm just so excited about what the future holds. I can't wait till we can just grow wings and fly, not literally. I'm just so in love with my husband and our cute little family of four. <3 I don't think I could've been more by the blessed by the Goddess. I have the most amazing husband in the world, a wonderful chubby cat who loves to spend time with me, and an adorable baby kitten who is just the cutest little fluffy thing in the world.

In short, I love my family. I love my husband and my kitties. <3

Now comes the sad part of the past few days.

My dog is very sick. We don't know what's wrong with him, but my dad took out a $500 loan so we can take him to the vet and get him checked out. I really hope it's nothing serious and that we can take care of it quickly and without much expenses. I'd do anything for my dog, but we just don't have the money to care for him right now, and I'm worried. I hope whatever he has can be taken care of cheaply so we can actually get him the help he needs. I also hope he won't die, which I don't think will happen but I still worry because that's just what I do. I love him so much, I don't want anything to happen to him.

I think he has some sort of neurological disease that's affecting his spinal cord nerves. I hope it's nothing that serious, but I also hope it's nothing worse. I hope he's just constipated like last time... that would be easier to fix and he won't hurt after we take care of it. I just want my sweet little puppy to be all right; I hate seeing him down all the time unable to move because everything hurts him so much. He actually peed himself because he was in so much pain he couldn't get up to go downstairs and do his business.

I feel like crying, but I want to stay optimistic and hope that everything turns out okay.

I guess we'll just have to wait until tomorrow.

Love,
Andrea~!

Pre-med Anxieties

I think I should write here more often.

Writing always helps me feel better by helping me work through my troubles.

I am anxious.

As always.

I'm very anxious about not being good enough for med-school. I wasn't smart when I first started out at Weber, and I failed quite a bit of classes. Now that I have decided to do better, I'm worried that my GPA will never be good enough. I know that it'll be easier to get into a D.O. program, but I want to be Andrea Done, M.D., not Andrea Done, D.O. It just doesn't sound as cool!!! That and surgery fields are more for M.D.s, not D.O.s

I failed my first Chem exam. Well, I didn't fail, I got a 73.9%, but that's still failing in my book. It brought my grade down to a B-, and I'm really upset about it. I thought I knew everything, but I get I got over confident and messed up with my sig figs. I dunno this for sure, but I'm almost positive it was the sig figs. It's the thing that I've had the least practice with since the homework site doesn't really count them. I'm just really pissed that something so simple could've messed up my work. It was my fault for not paying enough attention to my work, but I'm still super upset about it. I'll just have to do better next time.

I guess doing so poorly just kinda made me doubt myself again. But one exam does not mean I'm not a good candidate. It doesn't mean I can't bring up my grade. It doesn't mean I'm not good enough. So why do I feel like I'm not good enough because of it? I guess I'm just so nervous in general that even one little mistake is going to make me feel like I suck and like I don't deserve to be a pre-med student.

Reading over it makes me feel like an idiot. I shouldn't have to feel this way. It's silly. If I take this as a learning experience to make sure I apply myself better next time, I can learn and grow from it. It's not something to be ashamed of as long as it doesn't happen again. I can, and will, do this!!! I just have to work harder at it.

I'm going to ace my next Chem exam. I'm also going to ace my next Psych exam, like I did with my first one, and ace the Math one I need to take this Saturday. I'm going to do just fine. I may not be the best, but I'll be damned if I don't try!!! I don't have to be perfect, I just have to try, and if that's not good enough, well, maybe then I'll reassess my fictional finalism.

Heh, Adler.

I'm also going to ace my first ASL exam, which I'm a little nervous about, but I'm sure I'll do fine, since it's pretty easy so far. I just have to remember all the signs!!! :)

I'm really blessed to be living here in America. I'm very blessed that my parents brought me here, to the land of opportunity. If I haven't moved here, I wouldn't have received the amazing education I'm getting, compared to Peru at least. I can't let myself ruin this amazing opportunity that the Goddess has provided me with.

I just wish I felt like... I was meant to be called a pre-med student. Not just a wanna-be that's trying because she held a brain and felt in love with it.

Or maybe that's what makes me a pre-med student; the fact that I LOVED the brain and everything about it. After all, isn't that why I wanted to go into medicine in the first place?

Brains.

I love them.

Everything about them.

And one day, I'm gonna operate on them. Am I using the right word? Eh, I like that word. I'll use it even if it's not the correct terminology.

I learned English.

I learned Math.

I'll learn Chemistry.

I'll learn everything med schools want me to learn.

I am awesome.

I just have to remember that.

And believe it.

Love,
Andrea~!

Physician Shadowing

I went on my first Physician Shadowing yesterday.

IT. WAS. AWESOME!!!

I LOVED EVERY SINGLE THING ABOUT IT!!!

I was super happy about doing it, and now I'm 100% sure I want to be a doctor. It was a FABULOUS experience and I'm super excited to do it again!!! My uncle saw that I was sooo happy and excited that he asked the dermatologist if I could shadow him next Tuesday. I'll be doing two shadowing experiences total by the end of next week, and I couldn't be happier!!! I was already looking forward to another one, but I didn't think it'd be this soon. I'm so happy I could cry!!!

Anyway, here's a detailed description of my day as I recollect it. :)

I got there at around two, and I went straight to Dr. Stewart's office. The first patient was a little boy who had an ear infection. IT WAS THE COOLEST THING IN THE WORLD!!! Not that the kid was in pain, but the fact that the doctor let me look into his ears. I saw what a healthy ear looks like, and what an infected ear looks like. It was AMAZING. It was the coolest thing about my day there. I can't wait to take anatomy!!!

Then came a lady that was super nice and had allergies. Then an older dad with a four month old baby; the baby was the cutest baby I have ever seen; he was so cute it made me want kids, that's how cute this little one was!!! Thankfully, he was perfectly healthy. They were worried he might have an ear infection, but he was perfectly fine. He also had a kid come in for a scout exam; I stepped out because of the hernia check that was part of the exam. He also saw a mother and two kids for the same reason; I stepped outside again for the hernia check. Not interested in that... too personal for a pre-med student.

He also saw a lady with a heart condition, an older woman for diarrhea, and two little kids who HATED the doctor's office!!! The doctor said the little five year old boy was the worst one he's had in all of his career. He screamed like a banshee and cried for the longest time. He was terrified about the scale, the thing to look into the ears, and especially of the little wooden thing that you put inside the mouth to hold down the tongue and inspect the throat. Oh hell, he LOST it when he saw it. The doctor didn't do it at first, but he was worried he might've had strep, so he tried to collect a sample for a strep test. This kid fought for fifteen minutes before the doctor gave up; he fought so hard that he got splinters on his tongue for biting down on the wooden stick and cotton swabs. The doctor decided that he would check his sister and get the test for the two-three year old girl and assume they both had the same thing. The little girl did everything, but did fight a little bit with the stick and cotton swabs, but it was over so quickly that she didn't really cry for longer than thirty seconds. Thankfully, the test came back negative.

The third patient he saw was an eighty-three year old man that was coughing a lot. He was there for about two hours so they could do some chest x-rays and a bunch of tests to figure out what was wrong with him. The doctor showed me the x-rays and taught me what each thing was so I could learn about it. It was amazing; I saw how thick the aorta was and I'm still amazed by its size!!! The x-ray didn't tell us anything though, so he had to do some more tests to check his lungs. Turns out he had COPD, or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. It was sad, since the man already had heart problems, migraines, and diabetes, but it was a good thing that they found out what he had so they could treat him and stop the progression of the disease. When he went to get a sample of the medicine for him, he explained to me what the medicine did and how it worked.

Dr. Stewart also showed me a report that came in while I was shadowing him. It was of, I think, one of his patients who had just been declared brain dead. I was able to read the report and see what one looks like, which was cool, but I was saddened by the fate of the patient. It may sound a little twisted, but I was glad to see how sad the doctor was over the news; it shows me that he truly cared about his patient, and that he wished there was something he could've done for him. I liked being able to see that a doctor cares about their patients outside of getting their money.

When I left, I thanked him  profusely and told him what an amazing experience it had been. I also told him that I wasn't sure if being a doctor was right for me, but that I KNEW this is what I wanted to do after shadowing him. He told me that's exactly what happened to him too; he knew he loved it after he shadowed a family practitioner. He also told me to come back any time and to just give him a call to see when I could come next. I'm sure I will ask him if I can come back soon; I'm way too excited to let too much time pass!!! If it was up to me, I'd do one every week, but I know I need to take it easy. I left at around five fifteen. I'm excited about the future, and I really can't wait until I start learning about all this in the next few semesters!!!

It was an AMAZING opportunity. I can't wait to be a doctor myself and be able to help patients with everything I can; I want to help people live better and healthier lives!!! I'm super excited about this all, and I want to get it all done soon so I can be the best neurosurgeon in the world!!!

If that's what I still want to do after med-school.

Love,
Andrea~!

Beautiful Life

Life has been pretty good to me lately.

My husband texted me not too long ago to let me know we were moving to Stonehenge.

I guess it's an apartment complex in Taylorsville.

The reason? They get faster internet.

Oh, Steven...

I love you, but sometimes, you're just weird...

Anyway, I've been working on my pre-med preparations. I've found a hospice to volunteer at and I have made one appointment with a doctor, thanks to my Uncle Rob, for Tuesday that will allow me to shadow him for a few hours. I continue doing my volunteer work for the shelter while I train for the hospice work so I can still get my hours in, but I'm taking Sundays and Wednesdays off so I'm not too overwhelmed once school starts. I hope to be able to volunteer at least eight hours a week total; five at the shelter and should be about two or three with whatever hospice patient I go visit. Not gonna lie, I'm a little nervous and scared.

I thought the concept of hospice was to just go visit elderly people, but it turns out it's people of any age... who have six months or less to live. I'm extremely saddened by this; I don't want to get attached to someone who is going to die in less than six months. It would hurt terribly to lose them... however, I do need to get comfortable around death, since I will have to deal with it once I'm a doctor. Especially since I will be, hopefully, performing brain surgery on my patients; there's a very high risk of malpractice, and although I don't wish to lose anyone on the operating table, things happen, and I will have to be prepared. Still, it doesn't make me feel any better knowing the person I help will die soon.

The one thing that keeps me calm is knowing that I will be keeping them company and hopefully brightening their day a little better. I hope to learn a lot from them, and maybe even get over my fear of dying. I hope that, somehow, they can help me figure out whether or not there's something on the other side. I think that may be my biggest fear; not existing any more. I hope that, somehow, they will shed some light on their thoughts and perhaps put me more at ease with it, and maybe, just maybe, I will figure out that there is some place our soul goes, and that we don't just stop existing.

Anyway, too depressing.

It's been a good day, and I'm excited as to what the future holds. I'm really looking forward to doing all the great things life has in store for me. I do hope I can become a GREAT doctor that can help a lot of patients; I'm sick of seeing people suffer, and I WANT to end that kind of suffering to the best of my ability, especially when it comes to the most delicate and complicated part of our body, the brain.

Life just couldn't get any better.

I just wish I could make peace with a few things from my past so I could thoroughly enjoy my time on this earth. The past keeps creeping its ugly head back and biting me when I least expect it. That IS life though, so I supposed I will just have to learn how to deal with it and move on. If the Goddess allows me to fix my errors, then I will, but until then, there's no reason to worry about a past that I can't change.

Oh! I adopted a kitten out yesterday!

I'm a little sad because I wanted her to go with her brother, but I'm sure he can benefit from being on his own. I am kinda nervous that mama cat is gonna miss her babies once my other kitten gets adopted though, so we'll see what happens. The foster mum said that it shouldn't be a problem, but it still worries me. I worry too much about everything!!!

I need to go back to yoga and learn to relax!!!

Love,
Andrea~!

The Good Ol' Times

I can't help but think about Kim. It's been... three years since we stopped talking? It'll be four in November. You think I'd be over losing a friend, since it was MY fault it even happened in the first place, but I'm not.

I drove past her house yesterday; I was driving out of my aunt's neighborhood to go pick up the hubby from the Frontrunner station, and I had to take that way to leave the neighborhood and be on my way to Clearfield. I think her family still lives there; I looked at the window that would be hers, if she still lived with them, and it made me terribly sad.

I know it's not worth another apology, because she won't see it, and if she does, she won't care. And that's fine, I hope her life is as wonderful as mine is now, but I still wish she was still a part of my life. I understand why she isn't, but Alex and I do miss her a lot. It sucks because we used to be so close and now... well, now we don't even know if she's alive or not.

I wonder about her a lot; she's in my dreams every now and then. I just wish she would get over it and just say, apology accepted, let's be friends. Maybe not best friend forever like we were; that'd be too awkward, but at least... you know... SOMETHING.

Just having her as a friend on Facebook and seeing how she's doing, and maybe go hang out once or twice a year would be enough. I don't blame her, but come on, it's been three and a half years, get over it... I got over my problem, which was the exact same one, a LONG time ago, and I'm friends, and CLOSE friends, with the person that hurt me at the time. If I can get over it, then so can you...

Aah, I'm just blabbering right now. Maybe I'll dedicate an entry to you on my blog, just to help myself rant and feel better, but you're wasting my time. Because a true friend isn't someone who doesn't hurt you; a true friend is one that KNOWS how to FORGIVE and FORGET. That's a true friend, and I guess you just weren't one. Even if I hurt you, you should've been able to get over it, not ignore me the second Steven and I got married...

Oh well. There's no turning back. I hope you're having a good life. Maybe one day you'll suffer from a terrible disease, and I'll be the only neurologist in the country you can see, and I will help you get over it and we will never speak after that. And maybe then you'll know I really cared all along.

Maybe you don't think about this at all... maybe I'm just the one that can't let go...

Love,
Andrea~!

Bliss

So it's been a while since I wrote anything here. I guess I was a super depressed child back then. Things are going great now though; I've grown a lot and I know what I need to do to be a better person and wife. Steven and I are doing great; we are both very excited as our second year anniversary approaches. I can't believe it'll be two years in fourteen days!!! Best two years of my life, even though they were a bit rocky. We learned how to be a married couple, and we rarely fight now-a-days. I'm so happy that I was lucky enough to end up with a man as extraordinary as him. We are slowly but surely working our way into moving out, which has been much needed for a while now. We had trouble finding jobs when we were first married, but since I quit mine at Kohl's and he started one in Focus, things have gone great. I'm kinda nervous about having to find one for the summer, because I truly wish to just be lazy and stuff, but I know I would go crazy with nothing to do.

On the bright side, I finally get my own kitties!!! I will be taking care of the kitties in the new Petco as a volunteer, which I'm glad about because I want more volunteer hours, but most importantly because I love taking care of the little ones. They are truly one of the most important things in my life that make me extremely happy, and I feel blessed for being able to help them find forever homes. Volunteering is something I want to do for the rest of my life, no matter what it is; I enjoy it, it keeps me occupied, and it gives my life some sort of value beyond what I feel it has by itself.

School is another thing that has been big in my life lately. I decided that I want to be a neurologist. Not only does it pay well, but it also lets me be able to touch and manipulate the brain in ways I wouldn't be able to to if I just wanted to be a psychiatrist. However, I'm struggling with chemistry, which is a major part of my degree. I'm afraid to go talk to my counselor because last time we talked she wasn't very encouraging, and I'm not entirely sure of how I should approach the situation. I hope that I can find a way to do things smoothly, but I feel like I'm not going anywhere. I know I need to apply myself a lot more, and I'm going to do my best, but I have to figure out a way to get into the groove of things and stop procrastinating. I need to do better in order to be who and what I want to be in the future.

I have a bright outlook of life right now.

I don't want to change that anytime soon.

Love,
Andrea~!

Upset

So today was my first day at work.

Worst. Day. Ever.

I barely learned anything.

All I did was take stupid things online and the register. I'm not even supposed to be on POS!!! I'm supposed to only use them for back up!!! I didn't even learn anything about doing other things, like recovering or how to search for things in the back room. I felt like they didn't even take the time to teach me. I mean, I know they want me to do the whole "yes we can" shit but could they at least teach me ONCE how to do it before they send me off to learn on my own?

I mean, if they just taught me ONCE how to do everything, I'd be more at ease with doing "yes we can" stuff. I would at least know A LITTLE BIT so I could be able to do my own thing and help customers. But they don't do that, now, do they? I dunno, maybe it's just because the supervisor that was meant to help me wasn't all that willing to help. But that upsets me because it makes ME look bad. I mean, she called me a "quiet one" and asked how "we could've hired a quiet one." It's seriously making me re-think I deserve this job.

Do they really expect me to jump right on everything and learn everything on my own when I don't even know where things are? I need at least ONE WHOLE DAY of GOOD training to at least know the BASICS so I can do things on my own. Yes, I was kinda quiet today, but that was because I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I was nervous, to the point where I got panic attacks in my sleep last night. I mean, IT'S NOT NORMAL. I WANT to LOVE this job as much as I loved worked at Double Scoop, but how can I do that when I feel they don't care enough about training someone? Maybe I'm just a slow learning, but c'mon, they should be able to at least help me a little bit. When I DID ask for help, I felt like they were getting tired of me. Well, do you want me to ask questions and make sure I know what I'm doing, or make mistakes and lose the company money? Ugh, I'm just so frustrated that I can't sleep!!!

I want to talk to Amber about it, because I trust her and I feel comfortable with her, but I'm not sure how to do that. I guess I just need to be more assertive. Whatever the case, I'm going to see if I can either go in early before my next shift, not for another whole week, btw, or just stop by sometime before then. I just wish I felt like they were interested enough in me as I am in them. I do want to learn, and I do want to be the best employee they've ever had, but how can I do that when I have no idea what I'm doing? How can I help a customer when I know as much as they do about things?

I just dunno what to do. I'm frustrated, I'm crying, and I just REALLY wish I hadn't applied there. Maybe my things IS to help with animals or work at small stores. I don't like these mega-corporations that don't take the time of day to help out an associate in need. I dunno, maybe I'm just over-reacting because I dunno how to act in such an environment. Maybe I'm comparing it to the deli too much.

Wish Double Scoop was still open.

I wish that every since day of my life.

But I know it's never going to happen.

Andrea~!

Lagoon

So, we went to Lagoon yesterday.

It was a lot of fun.

We caught up with Chelsea and Shaylee and we had a lot of fun. I'm gonna miss Chels when she leaves though. Hell, I miss her already. I don't think I've appreciated her enough because I figured she would always be here, but I had forgotten that people grow up and move, I suppose. I just wish we had more time; it feels like the thirteenth came up way too fast. It IS coming up way too fast... and I don't want it to.

After they left, Steven and I just wondered around and went to a few more rides. I think we only got to do two before the park closed, plus the bounce back thing so I could come back tomorrow and spend more time with Steven and possibly Chelsea and her friend. I think Lexi might come too, but I'm not sure right now.

It was a fun day though. Steven and I got to relax and see all the pretty lights of the park from the sky ride before we went home. It was awesome, even though I didn't think it was the prettiest thing out there. I guess it was more important to be with him than looking at the lights anyway.

Overall, it was an amazing day. I hope we have as much fun doing it tomorrow as we did yesterday.

Love,
Andrea~!

It All Ends Here

It all ends here.

Worst words I've ever read.

Worst words I've ever heard.

I don't want it to end here. I don't. Harry Potter is a major part of my life. It's part of who I am. The part of me that becomes obsessed over magic and action-packed fairy tales. The part that actually believes in love and friendship. The good side of me.

Harry Potter has done a lot for me over the years. It's helped me discover who I am and what's important to me. It's helped me make friends. It's helped me love reading and acting as much as I do. It's helped keep me sane. It might seem stupid to some people, but it's true. And quite honestly, I don't care if people think I'm crazy. Harry Potter kept me happy through the years and that's all I care about.

Harry Potter helped me make friends. If it wasn't for Harry Potter, I wouldn't be as close as I am to Alex. Although we met in drama class, we got closer because we both liked Harry Potter. We would both hang out and do things related to Harry Potter when we were younger, like plan a party that was all about Harry Potter. It was great. If it wasn't for Harry Potter, we never would've made The Fudgey Wonders Academy, which I still have in my flash drive. It was amazing, and funny, and just plain stupid, but we had a lot of fun writing it. If it wasn't for these amazing series, I wouldn't have Chelsea as a friend either. It was all because of it that I even started talking to her. She had a Harry Potter bag and I complimented it. That's how it all started. So Harry Potter has helped me come out of my shell enough to help me make friends that also enjoyed the books and movies. It might seem stupid, and small, and like the series didn't help at all, but it did. I'm such a shy person that it makes me literally sick to talk to strangers. That's why it was such a big deal to me to have Harry Potter in my life; because it helped me be myself and make friends.

Harry Potter was also important when it came to my relationships. If it wasn't for the movies, I wouldn't have gone on my first date with Steven. We went to watch Half-Blood Prince when it first came out together, and it was magical. It was our first date ever, and although I don't really remember much of it, I remember I was wearing my Hermione shirt from the fourth movie and we were waiting in line outside the Syracuse 6. I don't think our first date would've been as epic if we had gone to watch a different movie. I think after we watched it we stayed out a little late just sitting outside and talking about anything and everything. I guess you could say Harry Potter sealed the deal for us.

I also wouldn't be seeing one of my best buddies this weekend if it wasn't for the movies. Truth is, if it wasn't for the movie coming out, I probably wouldn't see him again. It's important for us because we haven't seen each other in years, and I think we're both looking for some sort of closure. It'll also be awesome to go watch the movie with him because I know we will do the mischief managed thing if he's there. I guess he's the daredevil that will really help us stand up and do it.

If it wasn't for the books, I wouldn't love reading as much as I do now. I always enjoyed reading, but after finding the Harry Potter books, I became obsessed with it. It taught me to really love books and how easy it was to transport ourselves to a different, magical world by reading, something that would otherwise be out of our reach. The movies helped me realize how much I love to act. I've been told through the years that I'm a pretty good actress, and although I don't really believe it, I didn't notice how much I enjoyed doing it until I started watching the movies. It made me want to act more, maybe just to be a little closer to the cast, but nonetheless, it helped me. If it wasn't for the movies, I never would've wanted to do anything related to theater.

Harry Potter also helped keep me sane in my times of need. When I was lonely during lunch at the Junior High, Order of the Phoenix kept me company. I normally would've just gone off to a corner and felt sorry for myself, but instead, I sat down and read. I felt like I wasn't alone, but most importantly, I didn't feel like I was that big of a loser for not having friends. It was weird, but I felt a little better knowing I had something to do rather than just sitting there looking around. Granted, the book was my least favorite, but it helped me not break down crying every day when I got home. It was something small, but it was important to me, and I'm glad I had Harry Potter to turn to when I had no one else to turn to.

Harry Potter has done a lot for me over the years, and although I knew this day would come, I didn't want it to. I didn't want it to end... ever. It's going to feel like a part of me is never going to come back, even though I know it will always be in my heart. It will never be the same, I guess. I just don't want that to change. I want to look forward to new movies, books, calendars, or whatever, every year for the rest of my life. I know it's not going to happen though. Why must all good things come to an end?

I guess Harry Potter wouldn't be nearly as great if it just kept going. Sometimes we just have to say good bye for something to live on forever and still be amazing. The books and movies will live on forever, enchanting generation after generation, and captivating older ones over and over again. It all may end here, but it will never actually be gone, for the adventures of Harry, Ron, and Hermione will always live on in our hearts and souls.

Mischief Managed.

Love,
Andrea~!

Predictions

Since it's taken me about five tries to post anything, I'm just gonna go with I guess what I wanted to write about wasn't meant to be written.

Guess it's just one of those things that wasn't really all that important.

Or perhaps it was so important that it wasn't meant to be read by others.

Who knows? Who cares?

Love,
Andrea~!
